Access and Support
Objective: To broaden access to higher education for students, especially from working-class and marginalised backgrounds, and to enhance institutional support systems.
Activities Include: Research and policy analysis on funding models (e.g. NSFAS reform) Design of student support frameworks (academic, psychological, and material) Development of institutional access and retention strategies Hosting colloquia and roundtables on widening participation
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the Sector
Objective: To develop sustainable strategies to eliminate gender-based violence in higher education institutions and surrounding communities.
Activities Include: Evidence-led audits of GBV policies and implementation gaps Convening dialogues with survivors, student leaders, and university officials Training and capacity building for staff and students on prevention and response Advocacy for sector-wide GBV charters and compliance mechanisms
Graduate Employability and Curriculum Relevance
Objective: To improve the employability prospects of graduates by aligning academic programmes with national development priorities and labour market trends.
Activities Include: Conducting tracer studies and employability audits across universities and TVETs Stakeholder engagements with industry, SETAs, and government Hosting career expos, mentorship programmes, and networking events Publishing white papers on curriculum responsiveness and innovation
Broader Social and Economic Thought-Leadership
Objective: To contribute to national discourse on education and development through rigorous scholarship, dialogue, and advisory services.
Activities Include: Publishing academic and policy research papers Hosting public debates on education and transformation Providing consultancy services to institutions, ministries, and civil society Participating in national and international forums
